The new R18.3 design is based on the successful R17.5m - DSN#24 - "Paroo". Instead of steel, the R18.3m is a full aluminium kit yacht. It has a little more volume and stowage space than "Paroo" but the advantage of the lighter construction weights. The accommodation layout is based on a collision bulkhead and a number of watertight bulkheads meeting 1 compartment sub-division requirements for added safety.
The first boat has just started building in Seattle, WA. The aluminium kit was cut by Northwest Plasma Cutting in Seattle, who have already cut two R14m - DSN#47 - pilot house kits.
