The new aluminium kits have been developed from the work done on the R1000 Series steel cruising yachts with variations based on the different requirements for aluminium construction.
The full construction of the yacht is 3D modelled on a computer. In general, the frames are deeper and cut from lighter plate than the steel R400 and R450. The frames and floors are capped with flat bar to give the required strength and are also notched to accept the stringers and hull longitudinals. Intersecting components are "trimmed" to give correct clearances when assembling the hull and deck. The computer model includes all the rudder and skeg components, keel, sump tank, mast step, bow fitting, etc. The components developed on this model are extracted and nested onto standard size plates. The following drawings show typical nestings for hull frames and some floors.

The components for each frame are assembled on a simple grid before being located on the building jig. With the main frames standing the hull longitudinals, intermediate frames and backbone are included, followed by the stringers and deck edge tube and hull plating.
